Day Trips

We offer several possibilities for day trips around Banlung to see the most famous and worth seeing places or we can help you custom make up your own trip to suit your interests.

Option 1: One Day Kachah Sacred Cemetery

One thing in common, they are all animists. In their daily live everything revolves around the spirits. The good and bad ones. In particular this is present at the Kachah cemetery. At the Kachah cemetery the graves are flanked with men-high wooden sculptures. One sculpture represents the deceased while the other represents someone to keep the deceased company in the spiritual world. Artifacts which the deceased adored in his life are put in the grave to take along. If you are interest in culture, this trip is highly recommended.

By car we take you to Kachon. Our boat is waiting to take you for a half hour trip on the Tonle San river to Koah Piek.We visit the village and its surroundings. We show you the remnants of the Khmer rouge. The dam and the mass grave where the KR leaders wanted to bury the villagers to be executed. By miracle they escaped their death sentence. The survivors now live a peaceful life.

In order to gain two harvests of rice each year, the villagers and people from surrounding villages were forced to hard labour to construct a massive dam. The water basis was located in a flat area which had to be dug out of course by hand. People were poorly fed while doing the hard labour. People were tortured if they didn’t work hard enough. The Kachah cemetery shows a remarkable resemblance of Tampoun cemetery.
On the way back we stop to visit a Kreung Village.

The price includes: Transport (1 person by motorbike, 2 and more by TukTuk, car or van) English speaking guide, Boat trip on SeSan river, Lunch, Drinking water, entrance fees. The price from $55

Option 2:  Ratanakiri Waterfalls

There are several local waterfalls, and they are best seen during the rainy season when the water volume is at its highest and the vegetation is lush and green. Cha Ong is the most toured waterfall in the area, and is 18 metres high. The rock area behind the waterfall has been eroded away over the centuries by the waterfall, thus allowing you to walk behind the fall. Kan Chang is another fall, this one approximately 7 metres in height. It empties into a large pool in which it is possible to swim.
